Summary
I’ve had the privilege of being part of a couple of baptism classes here at Berkey. And I have to say- what a privilege. All three of us pastors are so grateful for the time we get to spend with young people exploring their faith and considering baptism. We are grateful for their honesty and their sharing and their questions. It’s a space that takes you simultaneously to the basics of what we believe and to the depths of what this really means and looks like in our lives of faith.
In reflecting on baptism questions such as this one- “Do you believe in God: the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; Jesus Christ, God’s son, our Lord; and the Holy Spirit, the giver of life?” we might all wonder- how do we really know?
In today’s letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes:
We know only in part,
We see in a mirror, dimly,
And as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
That feels like a bit of a blow to the enlightened western mindset, doesn’t it?
