A new MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group is forming in Downtown Goshen, chartered by First Presbyterian Church. MOPS International is dedicated to meeting the needs of every mother of preschoolers. MOPS strives to attain this vision through the local MOPS group. A MOPS group is started through a local church, and often has a leadership team made up of 8 key positions, although many groups start with only 2 or 3 leaders. Most MOPS groups vary in size from 10 to 200 women. MOPS groups usually meet once or twice a month, and often provide childcare through the MOPPETS program.

First Presbyterian Church has taken the first step by establishing the charter with MOPS International. We envision this ministry becoming a vital community ministry supported and led by members of multiple congregations. Along those lines, the Downtown Goshen MOPS ministry is currently seeking godly women who desire to reach out to fellow mothers through leadership in the following positions:

Hospitality Team Leader

Creates a welcoming atmosphere, organizes refreshments for meetings, plans special events and assists with special needs.

Publicity Team Leader

Promotes MOPS to the community and facilitates communication within the MOPS group through newsletters and other tools.

MOPPETS Team Leader:

Oversees the MOPPETS ministry – recruits, trains and supports MOPPETS workers. (MOPPETS is the childcare aspect of MOPS. This leader does not need to be a current mother of a preschooler.)

MOPS Mentor(s)

A mature woman who mentors MOPS women by listening, encouraging and offering godly perspectives. She often teaches or schedules guest speakers and disciples the Steering Team. (If you have previously been part of a MOPS ministry and/or you have older children and would love to invest in the lives of women who are just beginning this parenting journey, this position may be right up your alley!)

Finance Team Leader

Manages the group’s finances and budget.

Creative Activities Team Leader

Leads a team that organizes, plans and sometimes teaches activities that encourage creativity.

Discussion Group Team Leader

Leads a team of Discussion Group Leaders. (Depending on the size of the group when we start, this person may need to take the lead on discussion times, using the resources given, and develop a team of leaders as the group grows.)

Please join us for one of our organizational meetings on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. for women interested in being a part of this ministry, either as a participant or as part of the leadership team.
