ministries_lacasaAn Open House will be held at 114-116 Chapman Ave. on Thursday, May 30 and Sunday, June 2, 2013 to celebrate the completion of the rehabilitation of the house, in the Historic Roosevelt Center Neighborhood of Elkhart.  The home will be an affordable rental for two formerly homeless families.

The building was built around 1910 and constructed as a duplex which is somewhat unusual for that time period.  The property was donated to LaCasa by Edward Erie and Marcia Ellen Bontrager and funds for the complete rehab came from Elkhart City Community Development Block Grant, Elkhart County Lead Hazard Control Program, State of Indiana HOME Funds, NeighborWorks America and LaCasa.   The two will provide energy efficient, safe affordable housing for two local families.  Green features in the rehab include geo-thermal heating and cooling, energy star windows, doors and appliances, low flow fixtures and LED lighting.  For these two units LaCasa will be working with local service agencies to provide housing and services to two families who have experienced homelessness.  Giving these families a safe and affordable place to live is the key factor in creating stability for all facets of life.

Renovation of this property also represents another investment in quality housing in the Historic Roosevelt Center Neighborhood.  LaCasa also has other affordable and market rate units that it manages in South Central Elkhart through its leasing offices at Water Tower Place and Roosevelt Center.

The Open House will be held Thursday, May 30 from Noon until 1:00 PM.  The home will also be open on Sunday, June 2 from Noon until 2:00 PM.  Everyone is invited to attend!  Anyone wishing to donate cleaning supplies, utensils, dishes or blankets (full size) and towels may contact Bonnie at (574) 533-4450.
