Naming NatureSunday September 8, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. is the third in a Sabbath Hike series at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College, Wolf Lake, IN. These hikes are for adults or youth seeking a reflective approach and a change of pace from their busy lifestyles the rest of the week. This week, we’ll meet at the Learning Center Site and hike around the Onion Bottom wetland, stopping at the bird observation tower. We’ll also ponder what it means to be a creature that compulsively names things and learn names for a few of our familiar species.

Native Place: Disruption and Healing is the theme of Merry Lea’s 2013 Autumn Hope Conference, September 20 to 22. This faith-based event helps indoor people reconnect with creation and reflect on the intersections between their faith and the earth.  On our hikes, we will examine the disruptions that Merry Lea’s 1,189 acres have experienced in the past 250 years, and the varied communities that have shared this land over time.
