Each year, through Mennonite Central Committee’s mobile canning operation, more than half a million cans of meat are prepared by thousands of volunteers. MCC then sends this meat to crisis locations around the world. The Depot (1013 Division St., Goshen) will be hosting the MCC canner for the next two weeks: January 9-13 and January 16-19.
Berkey’s day to help with canning is Thursday, January 12. If the 12th doesn’t work for you, MCC would welcome your help on another day. Volunteers may come from 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., with a particular need for workers in the afternoon. Jobs include cutting turkey, labeling and cleaning cans, boxing cans, and cleaning up. Bring a sharp knife with you. A lunch is provided for volunteers, as well as some generous coffee breaks. Money is also needed to pay for the meat itself. Donations can be send to: MCC Great Lakes, 1013 Division St., Goshen, IN 46526. Designate “MCC Goshen Meat Canning.”
