For at least 15 years, the congregation has offered its pastors a sabbatical of up to 12 weeks after every 4 years of service. The pastor is required to seek approval for a sabbatical from the Spiritual Leadership Team and to report the sabbatical’s content to the congregation. At its last meeting, the SLT approved a proposal for a sabbatical from April 21 to August 10(this includes vacation). I’ll focus on 3 main activities: 1) reading 3 biblical-theological books on Sabbath, 2) observing a 24-hour Sabbath each week (something I’ve never done), and 3) continuing to work on a book manuscript I started about 6 years ago, tentatively entitled The Perceptive Eye. I’m grateful to the congregation for its sabbatical policy.
